Jarek Klimczak is a former seafarer and Master Mariner, currently holding a role of Chief Risk Consulting Officer, Specialty at AXA XL, a division of AXA.

Jarek’s career has taken him across South America and Germany before he moved to Singapore, where he worked from 2011 to 2021. In 2021, he relocated to New York, USA, and since 2024, he has been based in London, UK.

His responsibilities include guiding strategy and overseeing Risk Consulting activities across a wide range of Specialty insurance lines. With a professional career spanning 35 years, Jarek has always been closely associated with the Maritime Industry. He began as a cadet shortly after graduation, advancing through the ranks to become a Master Mariner, ultimately commanding a merchant vessel for five years. After 16 years at sea, he retired from seafaring in 2005. Before transitioning to the insurance industry, Jarek held roles as ship operator in the UK, Owner’s Representative in Latin and South America, Transport Engineer, and Cargo Superintendent/Port Captain in Germany. In 2011, he moved to Singapore to start his journey in Marine Insurance, and in 2021, joined the AXA XL office in New York to support marine underwriters in that region.

His qualifications include:

  • Master of Science in Nautical Science and Marine Transportation from Maritime University in Gdynia, Poland
  • Diploma in Business Administration from University of Gdansk, Poland
  • Certified Marine Surveyor (CMS) by NAMS Global, United States of America
  • Lloyd’s Maritime Academy Certificate in Vessel Valuation
  • TAPA FSR 2020 and TSR 2020 certifications
