Since 2016, Richard Janssen has been Managing Director of SMIT Salvage, headquartered in The Netherlands out of which SMIT undertakes both marine emergency response and wreck removal projects world-wide.

Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, Richard joined SMIT Tak’s operations department in 1999 and was promoted to contracts manager in 2000. Until September 2004 he headed up the commercial team. He subsequently moved to SMIT Terminals where he became responsible for region Africa as Commercial Manager working on LNG and FPSO marine support projects.
To gain further experience in the Oil and Gas industry he joined SBM Offshore as Contract Manager for SBM Production Contractors in Monte Carlo. He subsequently joined Helix Energy Solutions as Business Development Manager for their Subsea Construction division based out of Rotterdam. In 2009 he moved back to SMIT to take up the post of Commercial Director for SMIT Salvage where he was responsible for all commercial, contracting and claims activities.

Richard is a former member of the ISU Sub Committee and is a member of the ISU Executive Committee.
